The Cygnus Loop

The Cygnus Loop is a supernova remnant located in the constellation Cygnus, measuring approximately 3 degrees across the sky. For reference, the full moon is about 0.5 degrees in size. The loop consists of several distinct parts, including NGC 6960, known as the Western Veil or the Witch’s Broom, located at the top of the image, and NGC 6992, referred to as the Eastern Veil, found at the bottom. In the upper left corner, you can see Pickering’s Triangle. This nebula is roughly 2,700 light-years away from Earth and is estimated to be around 20,000 years old.
